If you are anything like me then you love handbags. Especially unique bags that not everyone might have. Don’t get me wrong. I love classic bags and colors, but there is something about certain colors that blows my mind. To some these might be statement bags, difficult to pair or match. But I have found a way to make them work into my everyday outfits. I am a very classic chic style girl. Using these statement bags helps me brighten my style and make it more juvenile.
Two years ago I bought one of my favorite bags. It a ceil blue Michael Kors Bag that has the same design as the Louis Vuitton Alma. It is a medium size top handle bag that has a detachable shoulder strap. In the beginning I thought this would be difficult to pair up, but quickly I found myself able to create numerous outfits with this bag. The trick I have found it to make these bags work into any outfit is to keep a simple color scheme. This means that I keep many neutrals or toned down color/pattern pieces. Having a neutral outfit will help you be more versatile with your accessories. That will also allow you to do with your outfit what you do with an accent wall in a room, create a contrasting focus point that will make you stand out.
Last year I got my hand on this BCBG washed out maroon handbag that IMO dupes the Chanel Le Boy. This is another handbag that I was scared to get because I did not think I would be able to give enough use. Red tones are a little easier to combine that blue or other fall/winter colors. But the rule still stands, since I normal wear more neutral tones outfits, I can use bold colored accessories and still look composed. Another thing that helps me pair this bag is the gold hardware. I don’t normally wear yellow gold. But if I decide to wear this bag, I will usually wear yellow gold jewelry. Even if some colors in my outfit clash, the cohesiveness of the hardware with my jewelry subdue the differences.
Last week while shopping at TJ Maxx with a friend I saw the cutest mustard yellow handbag. When I saw it I was completely smitten by it. I debated whether or not to get it. I just could not get it out of my mind, so I bought it. As soon as I got home I tried to think of how I would incorporate it into my everyday style and it wasn’t too hard. The first thing I looked for was colors that are in the same palette that usually go together. Seasonal colors are also a great alternative to pair these types of colored bags. So when deciding to put together something I loved the idea of pairing that bright mustard yellow with a more toned down ceil blue. That’s how this outfit came to be, and it was perfectly in sync with my IG theme.
Another great tip is to match your shoes and bag. This gives you a unified look but makes a statement at the same time. If you want to add patterns then using bags, shoes, or accessories with the less dominant color of the pattern is a great way to incorporate these statement pieces into a more classic look.
So these are the ways that I incorporate colorful statement bags into a classic chic style. Keeping a more neutral dominant outfit gives you more space to play with colorful accessories. Maintaining a cohesive and simple look, and modernizing it with pops of color.
