Here’s 5 things about personal finance I wish I had known/started to do earlier in my career!

1️⃣ Budget before you spend
- budgeting will help you find the best way to spend your money and start learning how to allocate money for specific things

2️⃣ Track ALL of your expenses
- tracking will help you SEE exactly where your money is going

3️⃣ Prioritize paying off HIGH INTEREST debt
- think of high interest debt as your enemy one of the major contributors to you NOT achieving your financial goals. As such pay it off ASAP!!

4️⃣ Open and Invest in a Roth IRA
- you can dip your toes in investing while allowing your money to grow TAX FREE forever ☺️
- remember to invest in LOW COST index funds or etfs

5️⃣ Aim to save 15-20% of your income
- do this in the best way you can
- this includes what you are investing in your Roth IRA
- tank up your emergency and sinking funds

Round Pond Estate has a beautiful, serene, and inviting property. From their terrace, to their vineyards, and their garden it is a must visit place if you are in Napa. ⁣

I have found that during medical training it’s very easy to lose yourself and try to get through it all by assimilating to the culture around us. Even now trying to find a job for after graduation I am finding people don't like when we are too assertive and we know what we want and deserve. ⁣
⁣
Sometimes, being yourself can result in conflict amongst peers or superiors. These conflicts can bring on self doubt, and even burnout. It can also mean having to turn down job offers or move away from a contract. ⁣
⁣
I am often asked how I have made it through training and maintained my personality, my drive to advocate for patients, and the contention to stand my ground in clinical scenarios. ⁣
⁣
Truth is I have had many mentors throughout my career that have pushed me to be who I am, and to not let the system change me. Has it brought me conflicts? Yes. Has it made me cry and feel defeated at times? Yes. But ultimately it has been worth it and it has made me into the doctor I am today. ⁣
⁣
With these 5 tips, you too can find your voice and stand up for what you believe in every day. ⁣
⁣
I am thankful for my mentors especially @simplystreetmd and @drlandrau for helping be confident in who I am and what I am worth. Giving up and accepting blindly is easy. That is why it is the root of a lot of the disparities in the business of medicine that many of us are fighting to break. ⁣

Happy new year 2022. Can you believe it’s an entire new year? I certainly am still in disbelief. 2021 was such a roller coaster ride and a LOT happened and 2022 seems like it wont be any different. The only thing I can hope for is that it is a better roller coaster🎢⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Back in October we went to San Francisco 🌉 and I have to say it had been one of the best trips we have ever taken. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I don’t think I have ever enjoyed hiking and being outdoors as much as I did during this trip. 🌳 ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
The weather was beautiful and perfect to do all of the outdoorsy things. ☀️ ⁣can’t wait for spring to peak it’s head and to be able to embark on all the new adventures coming up this year. More on this soon?⁣
